Vamos Traditional Village is a small local company specialising in holidays with a difference that focus on the cultural aspects of the Vamos area and which promote ethical sustainable ecotourism and agro-tourism.
Our many guests range from individual travelers, families and small groups of friends, who share similar values to our own and who enjoy the benefits that responsible low-impact tourism can bring to the area and the local community.
We are located in the old quarter of Vamos, the heart of the Apokoronou region of Crete, surrounded by many historically-rich buildings that were once the dwellings and houses of earlier inhabitants. Many of these traditional homes have been restored and are now offered as holiday rental accommodation. Vamos Traditional Village tourist agency has an exclusive selection of traditional guest houses, villas and cottages available for your holiday in Crete.
You can view our selection of traditional guest houses here.
If you wish to find out about the availability for any particular house, or make a more general enquiry about the traditional activites that we organise, please get in touch with us.
Vamos Traditional Village is the name of our tourist office. A warm welcome awaits you at the heart of the old neighbourhood in the reception area where you will meet Elena, Kleio and George, who will take you to your accommodation.
We can also provide you with useful information about the area including maps or general information about local festivals and other cultural activities.

How and why did it begin? Vamos Traditional Village Company was established in 1995 by a group of friends with the aim to promote the area and share their love of their region and their feelings for the local traditions with a wider population. The project was to organise activities that would highlight the image of the forgotten Crete - an image very different from the one perceived when visiting the busy tourist resorts.
Therefore, Vamos Traditional Village Company decided to set up its premises in the most authentic part of the village, "the old neighbourhood" with stone roads, old ruins, secret corners, village churches, old traditional houses, close to and harmonically with nature and among the locals. So, the old ruins and buildings of 18th, 19th and early 20th century were renovated into charming traditional guesthouses. Historical buildings were revived into an art cafe and a local handicraft shop, and in the entrance of the old neighbourhood, the village tavern turned to the "centre" of the Cretan Diet.
Now, Vamos is widely known as a traditional destination, where someone can become immersed into the real authentic Crete, relax and, without any pressure, combine holiday entertainment with cultural pursuits.
In short, if you would like to live in a stone and wood Cretan village cottage, taste natural honey and virgin olive oil, walk on flagstone village paths and in the local countryside, enjoy the flowers in bloom, say 'kalimera' to the locals whilst drinking coffee or 'tsikoudia' at the village kafenion and tavern, enjoy the sun and sea in nearby beaches, then you will be in the right place!
